Hard Rock International’s philanthropic endeavors urgently address the burden of cancer worldwide and support the 28 million people suffering from cancer around the globe. Hence, for the 10th consecutive year, Hard Rock Café Egypt continues to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer charity foundations locally and globally, by sponsoring and hosting events for breast cancer survivors.
The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) partnered with The U.S. nonprofit organization Suzanne G. Komen for the Cure®, and held two events at Hard Rock Café Egypt on October 16th and 19th under the auspices of H.E. Mrs. Suzanne Mubarak, to celebrate with breast cancer survivors.
The Breast Cancer Foundation of Egypt (BCFE) is a non-profit organization registered under the Ministry of Social Solidarity dedicated to fighting breast cancer in Egypt. It was founded in 2004 with an ultimate goal of a life free of breast cancer. BCFE targets women from all social and economic classes and offers helps through different means such as breast cancer awareness, education, and screening to Egyptian women, early detection, patient programs and support groups.
As for Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, it is the global leader of the breast cancer movement. It has invested more than $1 billion since its commencement in 1982. Susan G. Komen for the Cure® was established by Nancy G. Brinker after promising her sister Susan G. Komen, a breast cancer survivor, to make a difference.
“With nearly half a million women around the globe dying from breast cancer each year, together we can break the silence, raise awareness about this devastating disease, and ultimately save lives here in Egypt and throughout the world,” said Ambassador Nancy G. Brinker.
Statistics have shown that cancer kills more people every year than AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria combined. In addition, it is estimated that cancer will be the leading cause of death worldwide by 2010. With such astounding statistics, a global breast cancer movement is considered foreseeable.
The move is expected to kick off a unified global movement while providing attendees the opportunity to connect with other advocates, networks, gain media exposure and access tools and resources to help them mobilize in their own communities.
“With these events we feel that we are not alone, Hard Rock Cafe is sharing our pain,” Said one of the survivors.
